18/04/2012 Lincs Poacher 2, Middle Rasen/Osgoodby

Report
Malcolm's intimate knowledge of the area (he and Fran work voluntarily at Osgoodby) paid dividends in producing competitive courses with a good mix of technicality and route choice, utilising the path network and using the better areas of the forest. The 100 years plus of combined orienteering experience of the mapper, planner and controller were certainly put to the test in this relatively under utilised area.
It was a mixed night for the Field family with Yasmin and Joe being the stars on the Medium course - it must have been the pressure of being League Leaders that their older brothers were unable to handle, by making elementary mistakes - Boot Camp for the rest of the week?
Liam regained his form and fitness by storming round the long course ahead of fellow LOGite Paul M. Both are strong contenders again for this year's title.
The Jolly family now occupy 1-2-3 in the Short League standings, this has been the highlight of the Series so far.
I hope no one spent as much time on the floor as Didier Drogba did last night, by being fouled by the fallen trees or by being pulled back by the brambles or by slipping on the wet brashings!
Back to more runnable terrain next week by using Swallow WOLD wood (NE part of Pillar) - used only on Brown & Black courses at YHOA Champs at Pillar - only one Poacher competitor from RAFO might have an advantage - but will the courses be planned in the opposite direction? Access to this part of the wood is from the Great Limber to Swallow road. I hope I don't get as wet as Malcolm did putting out the controls.
