13/04/2016 Poacher 1 Cottager's Dale Wood

Report
The much anticipated 2016 Poacher Series is well and truly up and running. The use of the relatively brashing and bramble free areas of CDW were used to good affect on all courses, where route choice (apart from Control 1)was the key to success due to David's astute planning.
On the Short Course Flora, last year's champion, continued, where she left off last year.
The Medium Course this year looks to be as interesting as ever. With multiple year winners Joe and Yasmin now graduating on to the Long course (to give mum Rosie a chance) the 'field' is wide open. LOG newcomer Nick excelled, winning with a respectable time, fending off Helena, last years Ladies Long Course victor. Dom & his dad Chris battled out third place and for both, their consistency will mean that they are major contenders for honours this year. Elspeth also produced an excellent run just beating her older sister. Megan one of the favourites for this year's title looked a bit rusty, but can not be written off after one performance.
On the Long the usual pretenders were all in the mix, with Liam winning by a relatively large margin, with Paul and Zac not breathing right down his neck for a change. All competitors broke the one hour barrier (thanks to Mary not competing???)so early fitness levels seem good. Talking of fitness, Brian H completed his Manchester marathon on Sunday in 5.5 minutes per km but last night ran the 5 km at a rate of 8.1 m/km.
Next week sees a return to Willingham Woods, parking in the centre of the forest down more substantial tracks!!
