May 24 2010
After a necessary warm up on this surprisingly chilly May evening we carried out a number of compass exercises. We used the base plate model which has the advantage that the bearing can be set before you reach the attack point. We finished off with the Last Man Out bearing exercise before doing some fast and furious courses using SI timimg. Timings here
An Arsenal drinks bottle (there’s no accounting for taste!) was left on the field – I’ll bring it on June 7th when we will again be outside (the gym is out of use to us for a number of weeks, due to school exams) and will be doing a number of orienteering and fitness exercises.
Families and individuals always welcome – 6:00 to 7:30, every Monday (term time only), meeting in Girls Gym, Longcroft Upper School.

The evening consisted of a general warm up, with more running than some members thought necessary! This was followed by more running! The regular 1 km time trial. The warm sunny evening and hard ground produced some fast times. It was encouraging to note the continued improvement in times (with some old guy even getting under four minutes for the first time). Full results here.
After planning to put out a maze for the last three weeks, the coach actually managed it this week. Three maze courses were available and such was the enthusiasm that nearly everyone attempted all three. Many of the youngsters were seen repeated their attempts to try for an improvement in time. Full maze results here.
It was encouraging to see another new member this week, Conrad produced some impressive times in the 1km and in the maze.
