2 Teams (of 3) and One Individual competed at the Red Bull Challenge Event at Sherwood Pines on Sunday.
Yasmin was the youngest competitor and came a creditable 17th out of 36 in the Women’s Race.
As far as the Teams are concerned ‘A Field and 2 Paddocks’ (namely Dean, Zac and Jake) came second with the ‘HALO’ team of Peter H, David J & Wayne B finishing 5th out of 41.
The former, only 60 points from victory, which would have resulted in an invitation to the Red Bull Air Race in Ascot next year – to spectate and not compete!
The latter, who’s combined age was far higher than the others in the top 6 – predominantly University Teams – used their experience and logistics skills to out run and out think far younger opponents.
The full Results can be found here.
This Event is a 75 minutes Score Event (so the Pub League proved to be good training) with the addition of 6 Challenge Controls, these were archery, tree climbing, barrel rolling, beam balancing, onion firing and portcullis opening. Jake was the star who completed all 6. Bonus points are given to arriving at and completing these challenges.
The map can be found here – note the Challenge Controls are those circles outlined with a star (apologies for B&W image).
HALO team results download can be found here.
In orienteering terms this event is far from traditional, but it certainly attracts the young up and coming stars of the sport ( the lucrative prizes may help) as well as the older fraternity (the free food, drink and O tops may help), but all in all it is very professionally organised and would recommend to all. Thanks Red Bull.
Note: there may not be an Event in 2016 but hopefully 2017.
