Day 3 of the London City Weekend saw HALO Chairman Neil Harvatt winning the UltraSprint Race in Victoria Park. This event consisted of 3 Prologue x 1km Sprints all including a maze before the Final containing the top 4 athletes in each age/gender class.
Those who compete in our Poacher Series are aware of the fast and furious nature of these short sprints. But theses are even faster and more furious as over 20 controls have to be found on the 1km course and to make it more interesting controls are placed very close together and no Control Descriptions are given only a dot on the map.
An example is shown below.
To complicate matters further there could be more than one control on the same tree – so precision is the key. Neil certainly was very accurate as in the final he only finished third but he was the only one with a ‘clear round’ so the others incurred time penalties.
Suggest all Poacher competitors take note as one of these events could be replicated next year!
Here is Neil in the start lane for the final.
And this is Neil celebrating his success
