The final event in the Yorkshire and Humberside Urban league took place on Sunday (10th October) in the pleasant market town of Otley.  It seems a long time ago since the first event in this inaugural league took place in Beverley back in February.  An event that will be remembered as much for the snow blizzards and intrepid journeys to the event, as it was for the quality of the event.  Otley was a pleasant change with warm sunshine for the majority of the day.

The courses were testing with plenty of opportunity for mistakes, especially in the final cluster of controls.  These all involved short intricate legs amongst the many alleyways and traffic-free areas around the centre of Otley, a high level of concentration was needed, not easy at the end of a run.

Following the event the Mayor and Mayoress of Otley were on hand to present mementos to the first three runners in each class of the Urban League. The league was based on the best five runs out of a possible total of eight urban races that took place in Yorkshire and Humberside in 2010.

The following HALO runners achieved top three placings:-

      Charlotte Ward, Junior Women, 1st

      Helen Smith, Women’s Open, 2nd

      Pat O’Grady, Mens Ultra Vets (M70 ), 2nd

      Neil Harvatt, Mens Vets (M40 ), 3rd

Next up is the YHOA Super League comprising events in the Premier areas in the region.  One event remains and that is at Stoodley Pike, EPOC on October 24th.  Many HALO members are in the running for prizes including Pat O’Grady (currently 1st in M75), Paul Van Dam (3rd, M45S), John Butler (1st, M65S), Mike Smith (3rd, M65S), Rosie Field (1st W45S), Zac Field (1st, M16-), Jake Field (1st M14-), George Van Dam (1st, M10-), Joe Field (2nd, M10-), Yasmin Field (1st W12-).
