Adding to her Gold at the Humberside Schools Cross Country, Charlotte Ward of HALO and City of Hull Athletic Club, added a Silver medal at the combined Yorkshire and Humberside Cross Country Championships at Thornes Park in Wakefield. Postponed from the original date in early January because of snow, Saturday 20th February proved far more accomodating. A hard overnight frost meant the underfoot conditions were firm, but the organisers provided a testing course non-the-less. Charlotte completed the Women’s Under 17 class of 4,000 metres in 18 minutes, finishing 14th overall but 2nd, only 14 seconds down, on the Humberside winner. Running a controlled race, which saw the competetitors ascending three significant climbs, Charlotte started cautiously and gained places all the way to the finish. Next up – a place on the Humberside team at the Inter-Counties Cross Country at Birmingham on Saturday 13th March – to be televised on Sky !!
